Maj. Gen. Kathryn G. Frost
Kathryn G. Frost (1948- 2006), of Latta, S.C. retired from the U.S. Army in 2005. At that time she was the highest ranking female officer in the Army.
A 1970 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Frost worked as a civilian official in the military prior to joining the Army in 1974. During her 31-year career, Frost held several important appointments, including aid to former Secretary of State Colin Powell, when he headed the Joint Chiefs of Staff as adjutant general of the Army. A graduate of the Command and General Staff Course and the Army War College, Frost was a highly decorated officer. Among her many awards she received the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal and the Legion of Merit.
