Congaree Art Festival

Celebrating South Carolina artists, this show and sale of work by some of the state’s best studio artists is offered on museum grounds, weather permitting.
 
“The Congaree Art Festival provides a wonderful opportunity for a large number of South Carolina’s visual artists to have their work seen and potentially purchased by a growing audience of art collectors, says Paul Matheny, curator of art.  “It also provides a unique opportunity for the public to interact directly with artists and find out the story behind the artists and their work.”
 
  • See and purchase work by some of South Carolina’s best artists including many featured in the new exhibit Uncommon Folk.
  • Hands-on pottery demonstrations by Midlands Clay Art Society
  • Children’s art activities and a musical performance by Suzuki Strings at USC
  • Enjoy the musical “Halley’s Comet, 1910: A Fire in the Sky” and meet author Jerred Metz at the booksigning following the play
  • Reading and booksigning by author Ashlye V. Rumph-Geddis of City of Columbia’s Together We Can Read’s featured book “Tori Explores South Carolina"
  • View the Museum’s collection of telescopes in a special Behind the Scenes Tour ($)
  • Solar viewing with the Mildands Astronomy Club from 1:30 - 4 pm
