The Habitats

Habitat exhibitIn a series of five dioramas, the museum visitor is transported to the major habitats of South Carolina. The Mountain Cove reveals some of the often difficult-to-see aspects of mountainous western South Carolina. Next the visitor "travels" toward the coast through a Piedmont Stream habitat. Then he encounters a Sandhills habitat, followed by a Riverbottom Swamp Forest and finally emerges into the Beach/Dune/Saltmarsh. The last is a combination of three distinct habitats that are close together. Visitors may experience all of the major regions of South Carolina, and meet some of the plants and animals that live in them, within a short walk and a short time.
